Understanding the trauma body...

For me this feels like heat rising up through my body, an increase in heart rate, blurred vision and panic.

I have learnt to accept that it is my trauma response and that there is nothing 'wrong' with me; it is just my brain's way of keeping me safe from a perceived threat.

Afterwards, when I feel safer and calmer, I give myself permission to sit and process the physical reactions and attached emotions without judgement and with self-compassion. Instead of the self-abandonment and disassociating ways of coping that used to feel like the safer option.
