I believe that choice is the most powerful tool we have. We exist in a field of possibilities but it is our choices that guide where we go, and where we don't go. At any point we can change the direction of our lives by a simple choice. I have experienced how my bad choices led to the depths of darkness, and how my good choices can lead to the the most uplifting experiences.
One of my favourite sayings is 'do something today that your future-self will thank you for'. And now, after all the lessons I have learnt, I keep this in the back of my mind and in the forefront of every choice I make. I honestly believe that if I stick to this mantra, then I will continue to live an authentic life of peace, love and abundance. Something I now know I deserve.
Recently I did the next right thing for me and enrolled in the Diploma of Community Services (Mental Health). It is a qualification that will give me the skills and knowledge I need to work in the wider community, whether it's in the area of DV, addiction, homelessness, family breakdown or even correctional services.
This qualification will tie together my teaching training and experience, as well as my passion for Art Therapy. And when I am ready, it will give me the opportunities to best use what I have learnt from my own experiences with domestic violence and addiction to help others. Another year of study didn't particularly appeal to me to being with, but I know that by doing the difficult things like this, it will continue to help to build back my self-respect and self-esteem. And that is so important to my healing journey.
It continues to amaze me how when I choose to do the things that align to my higher purpose, no matter how hard they seem, new doors unlock and new opportunities become available to me. Ones that I never saw before.
