Art therapy can be a beneficial therapeutic process for all ages. For children and young people, it can be extremely effective for processing emotions. After many years working with children in the classroom, I have seen how they can sometimes find it hard to describe their feelings in appropriate ways. Art therapy allows children and young people to explore their emotions in a safe environment, and gives them the opportunity to express them visually, when words prove too difficult.
Art therapy can help children process and cope with:
The death of a family member or friend
Childhood trauma
Learning disabilities
Emotional issues like fear of abandonment or phobias
The challenges of serious disease in the family like cancer
Physical disabilities
Bullying
Friendship issues
It can also help students with behavioral problems. Plus, it is loads of fun!
